About Silva Vagabond
Hi and welcome to Silva Vagabond Arts and Crafts! My name is Sam and I’m interested in all things sustainable. As a disabled person, to me this mainly means sustainability around the home.
My background is in Materials Science and Engineering and although I can no longer work in industry like I had planned, I'm still on the same path of trying to create and live sustainably. Now I get to add my love of history and archaeology to the mix! I can't say whether Time Team had any influence here but I particularly adore Prehistory and the Saxon period with a special mention going to the medieval period. A lot of my inspiration with regards to spinning and weaving come from those eras.
Despite also growing up in inner Sydney, I've also always had a great interest in Agriculture. As acquiring a menagerie of animals is not quite within my grasp yet I've chosen to focus instead on urban homesteading. You'll often find me making Greek yoghurt and Paneer for curries when I'm not chasing Persie puppy out of my veggie beds . I personally love Brie so that's next on my list!
Because I apparently don't have enough crafts already, I also love making jewelry. Other than a very small amount of hand sewing I think it is the craft I've been doing the longest. As a teenager I spent a lot of time wire weaving but never had the equipment to perfect the finish I wanted for them - luckily this is no longer the case. I have the equipment, so now it's on to the experimenting and perfecting! In any craft you truly do never stop learning! While I also use historical inspiration for my jewelry making, I am a bit of a nerd and also very much like to draw on Tolkien and other great fantasy writers for inspiration as well.
Now that I've introduced myself feel free to look around the site and check out the Gallery and my Instagram and if you'd like, drop me a line via my email or Instagram chat!
